We worked with a large VR production company to understand how VR could be used as an intervention in a clinical setting. We started by compiling a comprehensive literature review of similar play-based interventions. Next we worked with hospital staff to create user stories. Finally, we went through a series of structured brainstorms to create the final idea.

To make a working prototype, we first develop a core mechanic. The core mechanic we design is the beating heart of your serious game. It is the action players will take over and over. When the idea works and is engaging, we build a simple prototype and test it over and over with testers. This is known as rapid iteration.

It’s not done until it creates the desired real world impact, AND is incredibly fun to play.


We worked with the International Federation of The Red Cross Red Crescent Societies to design a playful approach to understanding data around flood resilience. We rapidly prototyped ideas on paper and worked over Skype to playtest them with several Red Cross Red Crescent country teams.

Full Design

When a prototype is ready, we take it to the next level. This means a fully working version of your serious game. We develop it into its final form while continuing to thoroughly playtest it and vet it with data from those playtests. We are obsessed with data and detail. We worked with Northeastern University and DARPA to develop an Alternate Reality Game played over Slack and in the real world. The game collected massive amounts of user data for a study on unpredictable and uncertain work environments. Polished video assets, downloadable image assets, and playful UI elements created a multimedia escape room experience hosted by an advanced puzzle-solving AI.
